My 2020 High School Senior Experience

COVID-19 has had a significant impact on the world’s society with the potential of affecting how we interact with each other in the future. I have lost contact with many friends and known individuals who fought for their lives against COVID-19.

This pandemic has made me realize how truly vulnerable we are as a human species. Eventually, we will find a reliable treatment or cure against COVID-19. But what would have happened if a more contagious or deadly disease would have plagued the world? We have to be careful short term of when we will open up again, or we open up ourselves for the second wave of reported cases.

Due to COVID-19, my neighborhood has been connected and mindful of each other. We try to help those households containing elderly couples by going to supermarkets and buying whatever food/necessities they ask for. They are the most vulnerable population and we have to try and protect them the best we can. The neighborhood has also continuously kept in contact with each other and offering any help if needed.

Luckily, San Diego hasn’t been significantly hit by this pandemic. But we still have to mindful of surrounding cities. For instance, San Diego acts as a land border between Mexico and the United States. But his connection has led to Tijuana and the rest of the Mexican state of Baja California to have the second most reported cases in Mexico. My perspective has changed as I realized how connected we are global.  But I am proud of our local government keeping this city safe from a devastating outbreak.
